Made in Clay (MIC) has contracted North East Security Services (NESS) to advise, install and maintain security cameras on the inside and outside of the building. NESS is licensed & regulated under the Victorian Government The Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (PDP Act) (https://www.police.vic.gov.au/private-security

The primary purpose of these cameras is the safety and security of Made in Clay members, students and staff, especially in situations where there is only one user late at night. They are also a means of remotely monitoring studio facilities and equipment such as pottery supplies, kiln operation and slurry traps etc to ensure the studio is clean and fully operational at all times.

The system is not set up to monitor and analysis individual’s personal information and/or metadata. There are no hidden cameras or capacity for recording conversations. Credit card details and PIN numbers etc are not captured. All cameras are in plain sight and in areas where privacy could not be expected and hence in no way compromises anybody’s privacy.

The video data is stored in a secured, locked box and password protected, with the password known only to the owners and North-East Security. There is no off-site third party storage of the data. It will be automatically erased approximately every two months by the latest video data overwriting the oldest video footage.

The system and this policy has been designed to comply with and informed by The Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (PDP Act) and the Information Privacy Principles (IPPs) as laid out in https://ovic.vic.gov.au/privacy/guiding-principles-for-surveillance/.
